My presentation at SQLBits 4, 28th March 2009 in Manchester, is here: Data Warehouse Data Modelling.
In this presentation I explained what dimensional data model is, why we use it for data warehousing, when to use and when not to use, what are the advantages and disadvantages and what are the alternatives. To get first hand experience about how a third normal form transactional database is translated into fact and dimension tables in a dimensional model I used a real world example as a case study. I also discussed some particular points in dimensional modelling such as smart date key, choosing dimensional grain, and real time fact table.
